Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked northern Nam Dinh provincial authorities to increase coordination to fight and prevent social evils, such as gambling, prostitution, and drug use, especially at tourism destinations, to ensure social order.
The Deputy PM, accompanied by ministry and sector leaders, had a working session with the province’s key officials on May 16 at the end of his working tour to Red River delta provinces.
Nam Dinh has led other localities in deploying efficient solutions and measures to fight crimes, especially violent crime, hi-tech crime, and corruption, which are expected to be duplicated nationwide.
The province is carrying out a programme to crack down on gangsters’ groups and spoilt young people, who used guns and self-made weapons to commit crimes. The programme is highly lauded by the Ministry of Public Security.
The locality has, however, still dealt with 2,474 recorded drug users in 205 out of its 229 wards, communes, and districts, and is helping them to kick their bad habit off with Methadone.
At the session, Deputy PM Phuc also called on the province to exert efforts to implement its set plan on socio-economic development, remove obstacles for local businesses, and accelerate administrative reform.
In 2012, Nam Dinh enjoyed a rise of 11.7 percent in gross domestic product (GDP) and a GDP per capita of 21.1 million VND (1,000 USD). It created jobs for 30,500 workers and reduced the rate of poor households to 6.72 percent.-VNA
