Hanoi (VNA) - The National Assembly passed the Capital Law (revised) with the approval of 462 out of 470 participating deputies on June 28 morning during its seventh session.

The revised law, which will take effect from January 1 next year, consists of seven chapters with 54 articles, clearly defining the position and role of the capital city; policies and responsibilities for construction, development, management, and protection of the capital.

Prior to the voting, the NA listened to a report on revisions made to the draft Capital Law based on the outcomes of debates at the NA, presented by head of the NA's Committee on Legal Affairs Hoang Thanh Tung.

Tung emphasised that the Capital Law only regulates specially-designed mechanisms and policies for Hanoi, so beyond this law, the capital is still subject to other laws and legal documents within the legal system. Therefore, the NA Standing Committee took note of justified and responsible opinions of NA deputies with a view to continuing directing the review, amendment, and supplementation of related laws, decrees, and resolutions towards perfecting the legal system in the coming time, he went on./.
