The Vietnam National Defence television channel (QPVN) has made its official debut on the occasion of President Ho Chi Minh’s 123 rd birthday.

Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh and other senior officials pressed the button to kick-start the channel at a May 19 ceremony, which was broadcast live on the Vietnam Television’s VTV 1 channel.

Speaking at the event, Minister Thanh described the channel as an official organ of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence as well as the voice of the Vietnamese armed forces and people.

The channel will popularise the building of the people’s army and the all-people national defence in the new period, he said.

It will also provide viewers with reliable and timely information about orientations of the Party, State, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence, Thanh noted, asking the channel to expand cooperation with other radio and TV channels.

Apart from news and documentaries, the QPVN channel, which is dedicated to the national defence task, also entertains people with interesting movies and sports programmes.

The channel will be on the air 18.5 hours a day, from 5.30 to 24.00, via VCTV, SCTV, HTVC, and Viettel’s IPTV and Mobile TV services.-VNA
