Across the islands of the Truong Sa Archipelago and the DK1 oil rig, Vietnam’s national flag is not only proudly displayed atop flagpoles and sovereignty markers but also in residential areas and units and on boats and rafts on the islands, as well as on the boats of fishermen venturing to sea day and night.
After 49 years of post-liberation construction and development (1975 - 2024), the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago in Truong Sa island district, the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, has been undergoing continuous changes. Welfare facilities such as cultural houses, schools, hospitals, and berths are either being modernised or built.
The Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago (Khanh Hoa province) is a sacred symbol of national sovereignty over Vietnam’s seas and borders. During the sunny days of May, the Truong Sa Archipelago becomes even more magnificent with its tranquillity and vibrant life.
On the islands and islets of the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, off the coast of Khanh Hoa province, lighthouses stand steadfastly amid the wind, rain, and harsh weather to guide ships, ensure maritime security, and assert Vietnam’s position and sovereignty.
As has been clearly enunciated many times, Vietnam has full legal basis and ample historical evidence to assert its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and the Truong Sa (Spratly), in accordance with international law as well as sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over maritime zones established following the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982), Deputy Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Doan Khac Viet said on May 23.
To support Vietnam’s fishermen, many fisheries logistics centres have been established on islands such as Truong Sa Lon (Big Spratly) and Da Tay (West Reef), providing free fresh water, and supplying provisions, food, and fuel, etc., at prices equivalent to those on the mainland, while also providing rescue assistance to those in need and ensuring the safety of their vessels.
