National junior wushu champs kicks off in Hanoi

Close to 300 martial artists from 24 cities and provinces throughout the country are competing at the National Junior Wushu Championships, which opened in Hanoi on July 31.
Close to 300 martial artists from 24 cities and provinces throughout thecountry are competing at the National Junior Wushu Championships, whichopened in Hanoi on July 31.

The athletes are contending for 78 sets of medals in Taolu (performance) and Sanshou (combat) events.

In Taolu events, the athletes are divided into three age groups:17-18, 12-16 and under 12 years old, while those competing in Sanshouevents are separated into 17-18 and 15-16 year-old groups.

Organisers said with more than 30 talented martial artists, the Hanoiteam is considered the favourite at this year’s tournament and HoChi Minh City ’s squad is expected to take second place.

The championships will run until August 6./.

One of the clearest examples is Hieu Luc, a modest fish soup eatery on Hai Ba Trung Street in Hanoi, which has been included in the Michelin Selected category for the second consecutive year. Known for its clear, delicately sweet broth made from freshwater perch and mustard greens, the restaurant serves a traditional specialty from Hung Yen province.

ASEAN city leaders explore Hanoi’s heritage sites

At the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, delegates visited the Doan Mon Gate and learnt about the formation and development of the ancient capital through different historical periods at display spaces. They also explored the Kinh Thien Palace’s Dragon Steps (large stone steps with dragon carvings), regarded as the political and ceremonial centre of the imperial citadel during successive Vietnamese dynasties.
