National junior wushu champs kicks off in Hanoi

Close to 300 martial artists from 24 cities and provinces throughout the country are competing at the National Junior Wushu Championships, which opened in Hanoi on July 31.

The athletes are contending for 78 sets of medals in Taolu (performance) and Sanshou (combat) events.

In Taolu events, the athletes are divided into three age groups: 17-18, 12-16 and under 12 years old, while those competing in Sanshou events are separated into 17-18 and 15-16 year-old groups.

Organisers said with more than 30 talented martial artists, the Hanoi team is considered the favourite at this year’s tournament and Ho Chi Minh City ’s squad is expected to take second place.

The championships will run until August 6./.
