Over 900 disabled athletes have registered to participate in the 2013 Vietnam Para-Games, to be held in Hanoi from July 22-28, the organising board said at a press briefing in Hanoi on July 15.
The athletes will compete in five sports: track and field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, and chess.
First organised in 1988, the annual national para-games aims to encourage sport spirit among the disabled while helping select elite players to send to regional and world-level events.
Vietnam has attended most regional and world para-games and gained considerable achievements.
Many local athletes have won championship titles at Asian Para-Games such as Vo Thanh Tung (swimming), Cao Ngoc Hung, Nguyen Thi Hai (track and field), and Nguyen Thi Hong, Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan and Nguyen Binh An (weightlifting).-VNA
