

PM examines Mai Son - National Highway 45 project
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on January 28 inspected the Mai Son (Ninh Binh province)-National Highway 45 project, a section of the North-South Expressway.
The North-South corridor expressway, running from Huu Nghi border gate to Ca Mau, is 2,063 km long as designed. As of May 2024, a total of 1,187 km have been put into operation, 861 km are under construction, and the remaining 15 km are under preparation for investment.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery exports totalled 21.15 billion USD in the first four months of 2025, up 10.7% year-on-year.

Vietnam secured nearly 13.82 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first four months of 2025, marking a year-on-year surge of 39.9%, according to the Ministry of Finance’s Foreign Investment Agency.

In 2023, Vietnam’s Human Development Index (HDI) reached 0.766, placing the country in the High Human Development category. With this score, Vietnam ranked 93rd out of 193 countries and territories, marking a significant improvement of 14 places compared to 2022.
In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam’s total outbound investment reached 309.3 million USD, 3.1 times higher than the same period in 2024.
At the invitation of President Aleksandr Lukashenko of the Republic of Belarus, Party General Secretary To Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation are paying a State visit to Belarus on May 11 and 12, 2025. This marks the Vietnamese party chief’s first visit to Belarus in his current role, and the first visit by a Party General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to Belarus in 11 years. In the first four months of this year, Vietnam welcomed 7.67 million international visitors, marking a 23.8% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth can be attributed to favorable visa policies and strong tourism promotion efforts.
Party General Secretary To Lam has recently signed Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW of the Politburo on private sector development. The resolution sets the goal that by 2030, the private sector will become the most important driver of the national economy, taking the lead in science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse will pay an official visit to Russia and attend the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, from May 8 to 11, 2025. This marks the first official visit to Russia by To Lam since his election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The visit holds special significance as it takes place during the two countries' celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (January 30, 1950 – January 30, 2025).
The celebration takes place on May 6-8 in Ho Chi Minh City, with over 2,700 delegates—including around 1,300 international guests from 85 countries and territories —gathering under the theme: “Solidarity and Tolerance for Human Dignity: Buddhist Wisdom for World Peace and Sustainable Development.”
At the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev, Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse pay a state visit to Azerbaijan on 7–8 May 2025 — the first visit at General Secretary level since diplomatic ties were established in 1992, marking the highest-level exchange in a decade and advancing bilateral relations to a new height.
The 9th session of the 15th National Assembly (NA) opened on May 5 and is scheduled to close on June 30. Lawmakers will review and decide on 54 items related to constitutional and legislative work, including amendments to the 2013 Constitution and a resolution on merging provincial administrative units. They will also consider 14 groups of issues on socio-economic matters, the state budget, oversight, and other key topics.
Party General Secretary To Lam left Hanoi on May 5 for state visits to Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, an official visit to Russia where he will attend the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Great Patriotic War, and then a state visit to Belarus from May 5 to 12. Kazakhstan will be the first stop for General Secretary To Lam in this European tour. The visit comes at a time when the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Kazakhstan are progressing positively. It aims to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries across various fields.
