Leaders of Laos and New Zealand have affirmed that both nations will press ahead with their cooperation in economics, human resources development, agriculture and communications.
At their talks in Vientiane on August 12, Lao President Choummaly Sayasone and visiting Governor General of New Zealand Jerry Mateparae consented to continue tightening and utilising the fine traditional relationship in the principle of mutual respect and benefits.
The same day, Jerry Mateparae met with Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong and National Assembly Chairman Pany Yathotou.
During his August 12-14 visit, the New Zealand leader is scheduled to visit the Lao northern province of Xieng Khouang, inquire into a mine clearance project and tour several historical and cultural sites.
Laos and New Zealand established their diplomatic ties in 1965.
New Zealand has provided Laos with official development assistance to help it achieve sustainable economic growth, especially from tourism, manage natural resources and develop its workforce.
Laos is the last leg of Jerry Mateparae’s trip to several Southeast Asian countries, which included Vietnam and Cambodia.-VNA
