Ngo boat race in the Mekong Delta kicks off

Tens of thousands of people flocked to Soc Trang City on November 14 to watch and cheer for the Ngo boat race in the Mekong Delta region. The two-day event is a highlight of the 6th Oóc Om Bóc Festival – Soc Trang Ngo Boat Race.

This time, the boat race draws the participation of 60 teams, including 53 for men and 7 for women.

They come from Soc Trang and other Mekong Delta localities, such as Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, and Hau Giang provinces, and Can Tho city.

In the first day of the competition, the participants competed with each other in two events, the 1,200-meter race for men, and 1,000-meter race for women.

Thanks to a good preparation and training, the competition saw an increased quality in the open day, bringing impressive performances to the audience.

Ngo Boat racing is a popular traditional kind of sports of the Khmer people, especially those living in the Mekong Delta. The annual event always draws crowds of audience from both inside and outside the province./.
