Hanoi (VNA) - The Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line project is soon to be operational. This project is a green solution for urban transport, alleviating traffic congestion and pollution.
According to the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board, the Apave Bureau Veritas-Certifer (ABC) consortium has officially certified that the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line has met safety standards for the elevated section.
This certification follows a thorough independent evaluation based on European standards and Vietnamese regulations. The ABC consortium has been involved since the construction phase, conducting assessments and issuing reports.
The safety certification dossier now needs approval from the Vietnam Railway Authority, the Vietnam Register, and the Construction and Quality Management Department under the Ministry of Transport.
The project's management has collaborated closely with these bodies and expects the safety dossier approval by July 2024.
Additionally, the environmental permit for the elevated section is under review by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, with completion expected this month.
Following the completion of the fire safety and environmental protection dossiers, the State Examination Council will verify and approve the final acceptance, paving the way for commercial operation.
This certification underscores the concerted efforts to ensure quality and safety. The accreditation covers the elevated section from Nhon to Cau Giay (8.5 km) and an underground section from Cau Giay to Hanoi Train Station (4 km).
It aims to improve traffic conditions for Hanoi residents. The elevated section is set to commence operations in July 2024, with the underground section expected by 2027.
"Once the project acceptance dossiers, including those for specialized works such as fire safety and environmental protection, and the system safety evaluation are completed, the State Inspection Council will review and approve the acceptance results. This will provide the basis for commercial operation of the line," said the leadership of the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board.
In May 2023, the Prime Minister approved adjustments to the project's timeline and budget, extending it to 2027 with a total investment of more than 34.8 trillion VND.
The project is expected to significantly enhance urban transport and environmental quality in Hanoi's western area.
The Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line is expected to be an eco-friendly solution, helping to reduce traffic congestion and urban pollution while improving the quality of life for residents in the western area of Hanoi.
The line spans 12.5 km, featuring 8 elevated stations and 4 underground stations. The elevated section from Nhon to Cau Giay, measuring 8.5 km, is set to commence operations in July 2024, while the 4 km underground section from Cau Giay to Hanoi Station is to be completed by 2027.
The route starts at Nhon and follows Highway 32 through Cau Dien, Mai Dich, and the intersection with the Ring Road 3 to Cau Giay (intersection with Ring Road 2), then continues through Kim Ma, Cat Linh, Quoc Tu Giam, and ends at Hanoi Station on Tran Hung Dao Street./.
