Olympiad prize winners honoured

The nation sent out 7 teams comprising 34 students to compete in regional and international Olympiads in physics, chemistry, biology, maths, informatics and the 2012 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Thirty one students won 5 gold, 15 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Also this year, Vietnam ’s national maths team came back after four years to be listed among top ten highest performers out of 100 participating teams.

The northern mountainous province of Son La has for the first time ever had their students competing and winning medals at the Asian and the international Physics Olympiads.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan praised the achievements by teachers and students at Olympiads held this year, saying that their efforts have contributed to the country’s education and training reforms.

He also asked the Ministry of Education and Training to work out a detailed plan to develop talents as well as encourage more students to make contributions to the nation.

On the occasion, Nhan presented the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit to 5 gold medallists and three ISEF top-prize winners.-VNA
