Twenty-five ethnic minority students from southern localities, who made outstanding academic performance in the 2013-2014 school year, were honoured at a ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City on December 5.
Head of the HCM City representative office of the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs Nguyen Xuan Chau and Director of the Vietnam News Agency’s Southern Region Office Nguyen Tien Le presented gifts to the students.
Among the students, one won a first prize, seven won second prizes, four won third prizes and seven won consolation prizes in the national academic contests, while six got top marks in the university entrance examinations.
Chau said the awards aim to encourage poor students to pursue higher learning. He noted that the education and training work in mountainous and ethnic minority regions has been improved over the past time, with most of provinces and districts having ethnic boarding schools.-VNA
