Over 100 table tennis stars to compete in Vung Tau

As many as 106 table tennis players from seven countries and territories will compete at the 24 th “Golden Racquet” International Tournament scheduled for July 13-17 in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
As many as 106 table tennis players from seven countries and territories will compete at the 24 th “Golden Racquet” International Tournament scheduled for July 13-17 in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

This is the first time the tournament will be held in the coastal city of Vung Tau after 23 years it took place in Ho Chi Minh City , said Nguyen Trong Truc, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Table-tennis Federation.

The tournament will also mark the first time foreigners are allowed to play for domestic clubs. Three Chinese will join the PetroVietnam men’s team and the Vietsovpetro women’s team.

Besides the national team, the host country will have three other teams from Ho Chi Minh City , PetroVietnam and Vietsovpetro competing at the event against players from Malaysia , Singapore , Thailand , the Republic of Korea , Japan , and Hong Kong .

According to the organising board, the RoK is a favourite for the championship title in both men’s and women’s events as it will send the largest number of players to the tournament./.
