HCM City (VNA)– More than 5,000 athletes from 44 countries participated in the 2017Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon on November 26.

In the tournament’s mostimportant 42km event, the gold and silver medals went to runners from Kenya.

Rotich Jane triumphed in thewomen’s run with a time of 3:02:34, while Kigen Caroline earned the silver andVietnamese runner Nguyen Chi pocketed the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category,Keter Peter of Kenya won the gold medal after a time of 2:28:47, followed byBirgen Geoffrey also from Kenya and Do Quoc Luat from the host Vietnam.

The 2017 Techcombank HCM City International Marathon offered a chance to introduce the city’s image as adynamic, innovative, modern and friendly destination for international tourists,said Le Truong Hien Hoa, Director of the HCM City Tourism Promotion Agency.

[Techcombank HCM City Int’l Marathon to kick off]

It comprises 42 km, 21 kmand 10 km events, with the courses running from Thao Cam Vien park in District1 and finishing at the Empire City Complex in District 2’s Thu Thiem area.

At the end of the tournament,the organisers handed over 500 million VND (22,000 USD) to the Fund for thePoor and the fund for sport talents of HCM City.-VNA
