A ceremony celebrating the traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) festival was held on February 5 in Paris by the Vietnamese Association in France (UGVF).
Addressing the ceremony, Chairwoman of UGVF Thérèse Nguyen Van Ky expressed her belief in the country’s achievements and its renewal process.
She said last year, the UGVF mobilised more than 15,000 EUR for flood victims at home and it will move to further promote activities for the country’s solidarity and development.
She also said that, the UGVF was proud of the fact that Ngo Bao Chau, a young Vietnamese mathematician, who studied and lectured in France , was awarded the 2010 Fields Medal, the highest honor in mathematics.
The two-day programme included traditional food, recreational and cultural activities, folk games, lion dancing and a singing contest.
The highlight of the programme was a great performance entitled “The Nation” which featured Vietnam ’s development throughout history.
Following the New Year programme, a series of dance and song performances were held in large cities in France such as Bordeaux, Marseille and Lyon by the Vietnamese Association and the Vietnamese Students’ Association in France to help Vietnamese residents celebrate a warm Tet like in their home country./.
