Over 200 overseas Vietnamese (OVs) from Laos and Thailand attended a get-together in Ho Chi Minh City on Feb. 12 on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
Co-organised by the Association for Liaison with OVs - Ho Chi Minh City and the Liaison Committee for Vietnamese in Laos and Thailand (LCV), the event draw representatives from the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, and the general consulates of Laos, Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City.
Hoang Ngoc Hung, head of the LCV wished all OVs health and a happy new year and added that as a bridge connecting OVs in the two countries, the LCV gives priority to people-to-people diplomacy to strengthen the special friendship among the countries’ peoples.
The LCV also presented gifts to the elderly and OV’s children excelling in studies.
The same day in Ho Chi Minh City, about 300 Vietnamese experts and officials who used to help Cambodia joined a meeting to mark the Tet festival.
On the occasion, 101 individuals received the “For International Service” insignia awarded by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung for their support to Cambodia in the 1979-1989 period./.
