Tien Giang province in the Mekong Delta has been selected as one of the localities to implement an Oxfam-funded project to help coastal communities adapt to climate change.
The project aims to support the most vulnerable people in society, especially women living in coastal regions exposed to climate change and natural disasters.
Ten communes in Go Cong Tay and Tan Phu Dong districts will benefit. Poor families, fish farmers and households with people that have disabilities will be targeted.
The 3 million AUD (3.15 million USD) Oxfam initiative began in August 2012, and will continue to the end of next year. The project is underway in two Mekong Delta provinces and three provinces in the Red River Delta, and has helped 51,000 vulnerable people, mostly women, access climate change information. Another 11,000 have been assisted in their livelihood.
The outcomes of the project will support policy makers and minimise risks to the province and country. -VNA
