Papua New Guinea grants e-visas to APEC member economies

Hanoi (VNA) – Papua New Guinea’s Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) on June 17 announced expansion of its electronic-visa programme for members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum as an effort to welcome more foreign visitors.

Papua New Guinea will host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Port Moresby this November. The ICA said that the e-visa system is now available to all APEC economies.

Minister of Immigration and Border Security Petrus Thomas told press that since the APEC meeting in 2018, all agencies in Papua New Guinea have engaged with technology and are now pursuing digital transformation of services. Thus, all APEC members, including Russia, will have access to an online visa to visit the country without the need to come to Papua New Guinea Embassy or High Commission.

He added that the has country also approved expansion to a range of Commonwealth member states from all over the world, comprising India, South Africa and Cyprus.-VNA
