Party, Government leaders pay pre-Tet visits to navy, disadvantaged people

Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member and standing member of the PartyCentral Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong on January 7 had a working sessionwith the Navy in the northern port city of Hai Phong and extended Lunar NewYear (Tet) greetings to naval soldiers.  

Thuong hailed the naval force for its achievements during the past year, andasked the force to continue effectively implementing resolutions and conclusionsof the Party Central Committee on the building and rectification of the Partyand the political system, in combination with Directive 05 of the Politburomember on studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, ethics andworking style.  

On the occasion, the Party official talked to representatives of military unitsand people in Truong Sa island district, the marine platform DK1 and ships onduty at sea via teleconferencing, wishing them a happy and successful year inthe Year of the Cat.

The same day, Thuong attended a Tet programme held for workers in Hai Phong.

On January 8, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai visited and presented gifts toseveral beneficiaries of social policies, poor families and workers indisadvantaged circumstance in the southern provinces of Ca Mau and Long An onthe occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year.

The Deputy PM asked the administrations and agencies in the provinces to wellimplement Directive 19/CT-TW of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat oncelebration of the 2023 Tet, and the Prime Minister’s Directive 22/CT-TTg onmeasures to ensure joyful, healthy, safe and economical celebrations of Tet./.

Xuyen Viet Oil case: Appellate verdict announced, with six receiving reduced sentences

Specifically, the trial panel sentenced the mastermind of the case, Mai Thi Hong Hanh, ex-Director and Chairwoman of the Board of Members of Xuyen Viet Oil, to 11 years in prison for the crime of “giving bribes” and 17 years for “violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing loss and wastefulness.” The combined sentence is 28 years in prison, 2 years less than the first-instance verdict.

Khanh Hoa tightens control of fishing vessels at sea ports

As many as 99.7% of Khanh Hoa's fishing vessels over 15 metres in length – 631 out of 633 – have now been equipped with VMS devices.
