Buenos Aires (VNA) – Politburo member Vo Van Thuong and Argentine leaders have discussed measures to further boost cooperation between Vietnam and Argentina, especially in 2018 when they celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
During his working visit to Argentina from October 29 to November 1, Thuong, who is head of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Information and Education Commission, paid courtesy visits to Vice President and President of the Senate of Argentina Gabriela Michetti and Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Patricia Gimenez, and met Minister of Communication Hermann Lombardi.
He also held talks with Jorge Kreyness, Secretary in charge of International Affairs of the Communist Party of Argentina, and met with Humberto Schiavoni, President of the ruling party Republican Proposal (PRO).
At the talks and meetings, Thuong stressed that trade turnover enjoyed a tenfold increase over the past 10 years, from around 300 million USD in 2006 to over 3 billion USD in 2016.
He asked for closer cooperation between the two sides to raise the figure to 3.5 billion USD this year.
Argentine leaders hailed the significance of the CPV delegation’s visit, believing that it will help intensify bilateral relations.
They expressed their hope for learning Vietnam’s experience in poverty reduction, disaster response, and information and communication.
They also exchanged views with the Vietnamese side on how to foster cooperation in economics, trade, investment, and intensify ties with the CPV in the time ahead.
