Pay TV providers race to add new channels

K+Satellite Digital Television, Saigontourist Cable Television (SCTV) andAn Vien Television (AVG) have all announced new channels in theirpackages for 2015.

K+ added Screen RED and AFC on January 8, after introducing two other channels in December last year.

SCTVhas also launched new channels as well as new programmes. The providerplans to focus on investing in film channels such as SCTV14, aVietnamese film channel; SCTV9, an Asian film channel; and SCTV16, a newaction film channel, which was launched on January 1.

AVG hasannounced new domestic and international channels, bringing the numberof channels on its digital terrestrial television service in the Southto 100.

Beside the new domestic channel An Ninh The Gioi(ANTG), AVG's customers will be able to enjoy new international channelssuch as Screen Red, Warner TV, Cinema World, GEM TV, Bloomberg andBBC-Knowledge.

The fact that pay TV service providers havestopped trying to undercut each other is a positive sign for the sector,as Vietnam 's average revenue per user (ARPU) for pay TV is thelowest in ASEAN.

In 2013, the country's ARPU was about 4-5USD, while the figure stood at 32 USD in Singapore, 30 USD in Malaysia,11 in Indonesia and Thailand, 10 USD in Cambodia and Myanmar, and 9 USDin the Philippines.-VNA

Vietravel Airlines to add new route serving Lunar New Year travel peak

During the peak period of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival in 2026, Vietravel Airlines plans to operate six – eight flights daily on the Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi route, three flights daily on the Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City – Vinh routes; and two flights daily on the Ho Chi Minh City – Quy Nhon route.

Can Tho–Ca Mau expressway fully opens from January 19

The new section, together with the Can Tho–Hau Giang segment that has been operating smoothly since late December last year, has completed the entire 110.85-km route.
