Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – Putting forward measures to improve the efficiency of anti-crime fight is a great political responsibility of the People’s Procuracy, President Truong Tan Sang told a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on December 25 to lay out the sector’s tasks for 2016.

He hailed the People’s Procuracy for fulfilling tasks in 2015, the first year to realise the 2014 Law on the Organisation of the People’s Procuracy.

The sector has made positive progresses in leadership and professional expertise while working to build key judicial bills, he said, adding that the role and responsibility of prosecutors have been further improved.

It also worked closely together with investigative bodies and courts on major corruption cases as well as devised initiatives to avoid wrong convictions in order to ensure human rights and citizens’ rights in line with the Constitution and law.

The leader asked the sector to seriously materialise a Resolution adopted by the 12th National Party Congress, particularly judicial regulations, combat corruption crimes and bring an end to delay in litigation.

It was required to reshuffle its apparatus, improve personnel training, Party building and international cooperation in the fight against crimes.

Participants at the event discussed existing shortcomings and set major tasks for next year.

This year, the sector dealt with 92.4 percent of complaint cases, accepted 79 percent of denunciation cases and scored a 99 percent conviction rate.-VNA
