Over 50 people were killed in an air force plane crash in the southern Philippines on July 4, the country's worst military air catastrophe in decades.

Manila (VNA) – Over 50 people were killed in an air force plane crash in the southern Philippines on July 4, the country's worst military air catastrophe in decades.

Of the dead victims, 47 were army personnel and three were civilians. Over 50 others are injured and being treated in hospitals while five are still missing. The soldiers on the flight had just completed military training and deployed to the southern islands to combat terrorism.

The C-130 military plane has missed the runway on the island of Jolo and crashed into nearby Patikul village at 11:30am (local time) on July 4.

The Philippine military will conduct an investigation into the accident. It has also ruled out the possibility of an attack. This is the country's worst military air disaster in around 30 years./.
