Philippines enjoys 5.2 billion USD export haul in March

The Philippines’ exports in March hit 5.2 billion USD, up 11 percent over the same period last year, thanks to a surge in global demand for electronic equipment, agricultural products and interior decoration, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Strong currency earners during the month included fresh bananas, transport equipment, wooden products, electronics and apparel, reported the PSA.

Industrial products made up 84.5 percent of the country’s total exports, bringing home 4.4 billion USD, a year-on-year rise of 13.5 percent.

Japan remained the top export market of the Philippines, consuming 1.3 billion USD worth of goods and accounting for 25 percent of the total exports in March. It was followed by the US, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, the Republic of Korea and Thailand.

The authority also revealed that the country’s total exports in the first quarter of this year reached 14.3 billion USD, up 6.5 percent against the same period last year.-VNA
