Hanoi (VNA) – A moderately strong 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck at sea off the main southern Philippine island of Mindanao on April 5.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter lied at the depth of 64.4 kilometres, around 45 kilometres southeast of the town of Tarragona.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, which separately measured the quake at 6.0 magnitude, said the quake was felt in the Mindanao cities of Davao, Mati and Bislig.
No casualties or damage were reported so far.
The Philippines lies on the Ring of Fire, a vast Pacific Ocean region where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.-VNA
