An exhibition of about 100 photos by photographer Nguyen Van Tho focusing on the beauty of Vietnamese women opened at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on August 6.
The exhibition, coorganised by the Vietnam Association for Photographic Artists (VAPA) and the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), is timed to celebrate the 80 th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union and part of art celebrations of the 1,000 th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
Through the exhibition, Tho wants to present portraits of talented Vietnamese women, from senior leaders like former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh and Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, to Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of the people’s armed forces, scientists, teachers, businesswomen, artists and workers.
“Although the photos are not enough to cover all Vietnamese women in different walks of life, they reflect the typical characteristics of Vietnamese women: faithful, brave, undaunted, responsible and talented,” said VAPA Director Vu Quoc Khanh.
The portraits reflected the traditional beauty of Vietnamese women, Tho said.
Tho,77, is a former VNA photo-journalist who has devoted much of his life to the arts, successfully held eight individual exhibitions and published four photo collections.
“Despite old age, I still keep my love of photography as I did when I was young,” he said. “I don’t feel satisfied with all photos I take but I’m always careful and take pains with all of them.”
The photographer says he is grateful for women who bring him inspiration in art.
The exhibition will last till August 15./.
