On the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year, the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong has presented 1,061 houses to poor families, mostly from ethnic minority groups in the locality.
The houses, built at a total cost of 37 billion VND (1.76 million USD), are a joint effort by the Government and local community.
Since 2009, Dak Nong has provided homes for 3,000 poor families from ethnic minority groups. Another 3,000 families are waiting for new houses.
The province will also help poor families with 150 billion VND to build their own houses by 2015. This year alone it aims to build 1,100 home for poor families.
On January 29, the Vietnam Fatherland Front division in southern Dong Nai province held a ceremony to mark the handover of 1,000 houses to poor families.
The houses, valued at 40-60 million VND each, were built with donations from local businesses, individuals and collectives, as well as with support from the provincial authorities.
On January 28, the central province of Quang Ngai reported that 344 houses, earmarked for poor households from ethnic minority groups, were ready for their new occupants.-VNA
