The Phu Quy Island Electricity Company in Binh Thuan province has got a modern supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to manage power supply.(Photo: VNA) Binh Thuan (VNA) - The Phu Quy Island District Electricity Company has just inaugurated amanagement and operation centre on the island.
It cost more than 270 billion VND (240.8 million USD) and took two years tobuild.
Using a modern supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, thecentre manages the operations of the island’s two power plants, onediesel-fuelled and the other a wind plant.
The local power grid has also been upgraded and expanded to meet the increasingdemand for electricity, ensure steady and safe supply and modernise powerdistribution and management.
Tran Ngọc Linh, director of the Binh Thuan province Electricity Corporation,said the island has a total electricity generation capacity of 16MW, 10MW fromthe diesel plant and 6MW from the wind power plant.
The centre will be a starting point for future projects such as solar andother power plants to meet demand, he said.
Power is now available 24 hours to all households on the island at the sametariffs as on the mainland.
Situated 120km from Phan Thiet city, Phu Quy island spreads over an area of17sq.km and has a population of 28,000 and great potential in the maritimeeconomy and tourism. -VNA
