Prague exhibition celebrates Vietnamese folk art

An exhibition opened on February 7 in Prague to introduce Vietnamese traditional art to culture vultures in the Czech Republic.
An exhibition opened on February 7 in Prague to introduce Vietnamese traditional art to culture vultures in the Czech Republic.

Organised by the National Gallery in Prague , in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese Association in the country, the exhibition is displaying a number of Buddha statues dating back to the 18 th century alongside a collection of Dong Ho traditional paintings and some ancient pottery.

Visitors can see an original version of a Dong Son kettledrum which was made around 1,000 years ago.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador Truong Manh Son highly valued the Czech National Gallery’s idea to hold the exhibition, which he described as a brilliant opportunity to bring Vietnamese culture closer to Czech friends.

Dr. Marketa Hanova, Director of the Oriental Art Collection at the National Gallery highlighted the fact that the exhibition is showcasing some newly-restored items that are on display for the first time.

A Vietnamese Day in the Czech Republic will also be held on April 26 as an highlight of the exhibition, which will run until May 11.-VNA
