Vinh Nghiem Pagoda is an ancient pagoda that was recognised as a special national historical site in Bac Giang Province.
When talking about Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, people can't help mentioning its woodblocks printed with Buddhist scriptures. Over time, these 700-year-old woodblocks became a very precious collection of ancient books.
There are more than 3,000 woodblocks at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda. They were carved in different periods, reflecting important viewpoints in philosophy of Vietnamese Buddhism. Some woodblocks have special patterns and carvings embodying Buddhism philosophies.
Each woodblock has two sides and each side is correlative with two pages with around 2,000 Chinese and Nom scripts.
The woodblocks mainly record Buddhist sutras and the formation and development of Truc Lam Zen sect. They also record poems, poetic essays and diaries of monks./.
