Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said the Government highly values the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) financial support, which amounts to 13 billion USD in aid so far, contributing greatly towards national poverty reduction work.
At a reception for ADB President Takehiko Nakao in Hanoi on January 15, PM Dung also voiced his pleasure at the fruitful ties between Vietnam and the ADB, especially the bank’s support in boosting the country’s socio-economic development.
The Government leader said Vietnam pledges to utilise ADB loans effectively by allocating counterpart capital and hastening ground clearance work to ensure the efficient disbursement of the funds.
He wants the ADB president to pay more attention to the partnership between the two sides as well as continue to offer vital assistances to the country’s prioritised fields.
For his part, the guest spoke highly of the nation’s poverty reduction work and the effectiveness of macroeconomic policies of curbing inflation and maintaining growth. He appreciated Vietnam ’s collaboration with the ADB and emphasised that the bank will continue to team up closely with the country.
The ADB President suggested the country quicken the disbursement of the ADB funds, and affirmed that his bank is willing to assist Vietnam in upgrading infrastructure of the fields of transport, energy, and health as well as in reforming State-owned enterprises.-VNA
