Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on April 27 left the Vattay International Airport in Vientiane for Hanoi, concluding his first official visit to Laos since he took office. Earlier, the PM, his spouse, and other accompanying officials paid tribute and laid a wreath at the unknown martyrs’ monument in Vientiane.
The PM visited the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum and a commemorative area dedicated to late President Souphanouvong, and met with representatives from late President Kaysone Phomvihane’s family.
He also took the occasion to visit the staff of the Vietnam Embassy in Laos and meet with the Vietnamese community in the country.
Hailing positive contributions of the Vietnamese expatriates in Laos to the homeland’s development, PM Phuc informed them of the country’s socio-economic development in recent years.
He called for more efforts from the community to contribute to sustaining and further strengthening the Vietnam-Laos relations, which, as he described, are the only one in the world.
The community needs to strictly abide by the host country’s laws, preserve the national tradition and culture, and make more contributions to the homeland’s development, he said.
In his working session with representatives from the Embassy, PM Phuc appreciated Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung in particular and all staff of the diplomatic agency for their endeavours to fulfill all tasks assigned by the Party, State and Government.
He asked them to continue upholding their responsibility and better their duties in the coming time, contributing to reinforcing and deepening the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.
Previously, he paid visits to former Party chief and President of Laos Khamtay Siphandone and General Sisavath Keobounphanh, former Prime Minister and President of the Lao Front for National Construction.
He also had a meeting with members of the Association of Vietnamese Investors in Laos, during which he suggested them focus on fields which are Vietnam’s strengths, and seek ways to expand investment and business in the country.-VNA
