Brocade making contest at the programme (Source: VNA) Dak Nong (VNA) – A brocade culture space programme opened in theCentral Highlands province of Dak Nong on January 14 as part of the firstVietnam brocade culture festival.
The three-dayprogramme attracts the participation of nearly 500 professional and amateurartists from 18 Vietnamese provinces and cities and Laos, Cambodia andIndonesia.
Along with trying to embroideringand weaving brocade by themselves, visitors are offered a chance to tastetraditional cuisine of Vietnamese ethnic groups, watch art performances, andexperience several traditional rituals of ethnic minority groups.
Deputy Director of theprovincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Minh Quang saidthat the event aims to honour the value of the brocade culture space, andoffers a chance to tighten mutual understanding and tighten the great unityamong Vietnamese people and with foreign friends.
The first Vietnambrocade culture festival is taking place in the Central Highlands locality fromJanuary 14-16.
The festival honoursthe remarkable cultures of Vietnamese ethnic groups and encourages ethnicpeople to preserve their traditional brocade craftsmanship. It is also expectedto create a venue for local artisans to exchange experience and shape thesustainable handicraft in society.
Major events held inthe framework of the festival include the exhibition of Vietnamese brocadecultural spaces, brocade weaving practice sessions, restoration of severalaspects of traditional ethnic minority festivals, and art performances. Aconference on brocade culture, a street festival, and a brocade fashion showare also scheduled to take place.-VNA
