Hanoi (VNA) - Quang Ninh province maintains its first place at the ranking of the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) and Provincial Green Index (PGI) 2023 which were released in Hanoi on May 9.

With 71.15 points, Quang Ninh topped the list for the 7th time in a row. This is the 11th year Quang Ninh is among the top 5 provinces and cities under the central government management to have best performance in economic operation.

The Mekong Delta province of Long An came second with a strong breakthrough jump from 10th place in the 2022 PCI Ranking. The rest of the top five were Hai Phong, Bac Giang, and the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap.

The top 5 localities in the 2023 PGI ranking are Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Dong Nai, Hung Yen and Ho Chi Minh City.

Addressing the release ceremony, Pham Tan Cong, President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the 2023 report on PCI and PGI revealed that the business community commended the local administration’s efforts to improve the business climate.

In addition, the two indexes also demonstrate how Vietnam’s business environment has improved through the perspective of foreign invested enterprises.

“FDI enterprises in Vietnam are steadily recovering after the pandemic, procedures that FDI enterprises in Vietnam have to implement have reduced. FDI enterprises’ production and business have shifted towards technology and specialized service industries in the knowledge economy. More FDI enterprises use input goods and services provided by domestic enterprises,” said Cong.

The PCI & PGI Report is a collaborative research product, conducted annually by VCCI with assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and private sector partners, to promote an enabling and environmentally friendly business climate in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper highlighted that the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is leveraging nearly 20 years of partnership with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to help Vietnam enhance its global market competitiveness by transitioning to a green economy.
