Prague (VNA) – The Vietnamese community in Prague, the Czech Republic, gathered on March 14 at a requiem dedicated to those who laid down their lives to safeguard the homeland’s sovereignty over seas and islands.

The event, which was held by the Veterans’ Association, the Buddhism Association, the Vietnam Culture and Art Association in the Czech Republic and the Brothers for Motherlands, was attended by more than 200 people, including Marcel Winter, Chairman of the Vietnam-Czech Republic Association.

Participants showed respect to the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country’s seas and islands, including Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.

They also reaffirmed the responsibilities of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic for joining hands in preserving the country’s sea and island sovereignty.

At the event, the organization board sent a letter of protest to the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic, highlighting Vietnam’s stance on opposing the use of forces and requesting China to stop all activities to change the status quo in the East Sea.
