Rising Mekong level hits Cambodia

The Mekong river’s rising floodwaters reached the Cambodian provinces of Kandal and Prey Veng, bordering Vietnam, on August 16, killing six people, inundating 5,500 hectares of land and forcing 574 households to evacuate.

The Cambodian National Committee for Disaster Management said the river had reached the highest level over the past decade and was likely to affect 10,000 households in the country.

The flood also submerged 5,400 hectares of rice in the Cambodian northeastern provinces of Stung Treng, Kratie and Kampong Cham./.
