Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Kim Sung-hwan has called on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to stop all its nuclear activities before returning to long-stalled nuclear disarmament talks.
FM Kim said in Seoul on Aug. 12 that one of the most fundamental prerequisites for restarting the talks would be a halt to all nuclear activities by the DPRK, including its uranium enrichment program.
He also asked the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to conduct a verification process.
FM Kim issued the statement two days after he had talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow , to seek solutions to the standstill of talks. The two sides agreed to boost political and diplomatic measures for a non-nuclear agreement on the Korean peninsula by resuming the six-party talks between Russia, the US, China, Japan, the RoK and DPRK./.
