The Republic of Korea (RoK) will offer 5.65 million USD for humanitarian projects in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Unification Ministry of the RoK said.
The donation, a response to UNICEF’s fundraising call for DPRK, will be spent on providing vaccines and other medical supplies and treating malnourished children, pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Between 1996 and 2009, the RoK provided 20 million for humanitarian programmes in the DPRK through UNICEF. Early last month, the RoK assisted its neighbour with medicines worth 6.94 million USD through WHO.
The RoK government said it will donate 2.3 million USD to build ambulance posts in Kaesong Industrial Park, allowing 47,000 DPRK workers to gain access to healthcare services./.a
