The Republic of Korea is reportedly set to screen bachelors looking for foreign brides, following an incident where a Vietnamese wife was stabbed to death by her Korean husband.

Moon Soo-Yong, a senior official from the Ministry of Justice, wasquoted by foreign sources as saying, "Those with a history of mentalillness or a violent crime record and those who have married anddivorced foreign brides three times or more will face restrictions onapplying for visas for their would-be brides".

Thepotential regulation also asks Koreans seeking foreign wives to take aclass on human rights and foreign customs and culture.

A 20-year-old from Can Tho City was killed by her mentally-ill husbandin the southern port city of Busan on July 8.

He hadbeen treated 57 times for schizophrenia before getting married to theVietnamese wife.

RoK statistics showed 47 percent ofthe foreign brides came from Vietnam, 26 percent from China and 10percent from Cambodia./.
