School for youth, reliable reserve force of Party

Growing up and being trained in the environment of the Youth Union, its members are a reliable reserve force and an important personnel development source for the Party, said Vu Trong Kim.

Hanoi (VNA) – Growing up and being trained in the environment of the Youth Union, its members are a reliable reserve force and an important personnel development source for the Party, said Vu Trong Kim.

Talking with the petite young boy, who is confident and dynamic with a permanent bright smile, few people think that Do Duc Thang, Vice President of the Students’ Association of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, used to experience a terrible crisis.

It was the days of enthusiastically participating in youth union and association activities during high-school time that helped him grow up step by step, especially after every fall and failure, Thang recalled.

His first failure was when Thang decided to form a group to collect and issue exam questions for his classmates, an effort to prepare for their graduation and university entrance exams. However, in response to Thang's excitement was the growing indifference of the group’s members. “In the age of the internet, you just need to type in Google to have a lot of exam questions. The lesson I have learned is that you have to find out what you guys need, you can't be subjective, to be able to attract union members," Thang shared.

Entering university, still passionate about youth union and association work, Thang said he faced challenges from himself when he could not balance his studies and movement activities, and as a result, his study results were not as good as expected.

“The peak of the tension came when I was assigned the position of Vice President of the Students’ Association of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology. I found myself overloaded with too many things and too many responsibilities that I could not complete, even though I often had to stay overnight in the office of the Association,” Thang said.

Thang said thanks to those crisis days, he gradually realized that he was holding too many things, while he did not know how to lead, manage, and assign tasks suitable to members’ abilities. “It is the years of participating in Youth Union activities that have helped me become more mature, and know how to manage time, how to divide work, how to arrange work and especially how to balance myself to ease pressure,” Thang shared.

Thang added that the environment of the Youth Union, where all activities aim to benefit the community, has cultivated good ideals and belief in the heart of each individual.

Vu Trong Kim, member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers, and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth Union of terms VI and VII, is an experienced person, who devoted his youth to the Union's activities. He said in the collective environment, people grow up very quickly because they often have chances to interact with other individuals.

“I joined the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization at the age of 13, then was admitted to the Youth Union when I was still very young and new to many things. But in the collective environment of the Union, which is always full of exciting movements and activities, my maturity came faster and my life became more meaningful. That is our life, our belief, and the true values for us to continue living, striving, not living a waste life with withering youth," said Kim.

Growing up and being trained in the environment of the Youth Union, its members are a reliable reserve force and an important personnel development source for the Party, Kim said, adding that many union cadres have become the country’s pillars.

Having attached himself to the Youth Union activities for more than 20 years, former State President Nguyen Minh Triet said the Youth Union is a reliable reserve team of the Party, and its ideals are in line with the Party's ideals. “Many former Union Youth officials hold important positions at different levels. This shows the Party's absolute trust in the Union,” he said.

This is also what former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan shared on the sidelines of a conference on Youth Union’s 90 years of development held recently. Recalling his young years of participating in the Union work, the former Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the youth union environment whose task is to train members about political ideals, life ideal for the interest of community and the country, is really a “seeding place” to provide cadres for the Party.

Looking back on the Youth Union’s 90 years of growth and maturity, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Anh Tuan said with pride: “Vietnamese young people always demonstrate boundless patriotism, loyalty and absolute confidence in the Party’s leadership and the goal of national independence and socialism. The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union always deserves to be the reliable reserve team of the Party, the socialist school, and the political nucleus organization of the Vietnamese youth"./.
