Security intensified for Lebaran night in Indonesia

As many as 5,100 personnel were mobilised in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta for security on the eve of the Muslim holiday’s Lebaran (Eid), which fell on the night of July 16 this year.

JakartaPolice spokesman Senior Commander Muhammad Iqbal said support wasoffered by other agencies from the health and fire prevention sectors.

According to National Police Chief GeneralBadrodin Haiti, almost 145,700 personnel are expected to be on dutyduring the festival nationwide, including 12,700 from military forces.

Thousands of Indonesian gathered in GrandIndonesia area in Jakarta, singing, dancing and praying together tocelebrate the night before their final day of Ramadan, Muslim fastingmonth.

Previously, more than 80,000 police weretasked with intensifying security as people in the world's most populousMuslim-majority country flood out of cities and head to their hometownsand villages to spend Eid with their families.-VNA
