More than 300 Khmer people in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh joined a get-together on September 28 to celebrate Sene Dolta Festival, a Khmer holiday honouring their ancestors.
Thach Du, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, delivered letters of greeting from local authorities to the area’s Khmer population.
Over the past year, Tra Vinh invested more than314 billion VND (14.7 million USD) to build houses for some 26,400 poor Khmer families and provided loans worth 14.32 billion VND to help needy households develop their business. The province also carried out combined programmes on education and health care within the national development framework.
To mark the festival, Tra Vinh allocated nearly 600 million VND from its budget to present relief aid to poor Khmer people.
The event is one of the largest annual festivals of the Khmer people, alongside Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) and Ooc Oom Bok, a festival to thank the Moon for a good harvest.
