The prices of shrimps in Thailand have sharply decreased as a result of a decline in export orders, according to the Thai Department of Fisheries (DoF).
Director General of the department Niwat Suthemeechaikul said the price of shrimp was down to 175 bath (5.4 USD) per kilogram from the average price ranging from 220 to 235 bath per kilogram during the January-February period.
According to the official, the decrease in global demand will prompt local suppliers to reduce their stocks.
However, shrimp prices are expected to return to normal from May or June onward, he added.
He suggested the seafood sector produce a sufficient supply of shrimp during that period.-VNA
