Singaporean researchers have developed a robot named “Huggler”, which looks like a monkey and can help the elderly in reducing depression.
The researchers also said it can diagnose some mental conditions such as dementia.
The Huggler was made up of several components, with microphones installed in the head and in the body while speakers and a smart phone are on the inside.
The researchers believe the Huggler can reduce the workload of therapists, nurses and caregivers.
According to Singaporean scientist, industrial robots like Huggler can soon perform tasks previously done by skilled technicians, computer programmers and engineers, while saving costs for companies and increasing productivity by up to 40 percent.
However, they said robots are never be able to replace humans, but to help the difficult and dangerous tasks.-VNA
