Singapore has been employing a number of measures to diversify the energy sources and enhance access to competitively-priced source of power supply, Second Minister for Trade and Industry S Iswaran said at the opening of the 7th annual Singapore International Energy Week on October 27.
The country is taking steps to expand the liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure to accommodate domestic gas demand and relevant activities in the long run.
Apart from adopting competitive policy to secure new LNG supplies, the island nation is focusing on solar technology which is considered the most viable renewable enery option for Singapore, the minister said.
He added that the Singaporean Government will establish a 20-million-USD Energy Training Fund and 25-million-USD Energy Storage Programme to serve the drive.
At the same time, the minister announced that Singapore supports ASEAN’s efforts to strengthen regional energy security through interconnectivity projects such as the Trans ASEAN Gas Pipeline and the ASEAN Power Grid (APG).
