Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore has imposed road charge on foreign-registered cars, announced Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) on January 16.
All foreign-registered cars will have to pay a reciprocal road charge of 6.4 SGD (about 4.48 USD) per entry when entering Singapore via the Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints, the LTA added.
The new law which took effect from January 15 is to match with Malaysia’s similar amount of levy implemented since last November.
The move aims to ensure that Malaysia takes into consideration Singapore's response whenever they raise their fees or introduce a new levy, said Singaporean Minister of Transport Khaw Boon Wan.
Up to 20,000 Singaporean vehicles enter Malaysia daily on average via the two checkpoints.-VNA
