Singaporean authorities have handed down a 30-month sentence to an Indonesian man for fixing a men’s football match at the 28th Southeast Asian Games 2015 (SEA Games) in the island country last May.
Nasiruddin, 52, and two other persons, including a Singaporean, bribed the technical director of the Timor-Leste Football Federation, Orlando Marques Henriques Mendez, with 15,000 SGD (nearly 11,000 USD) in return for East Timor’s loss against Malaysia in their opening match on May 30.
In fact, Timor-Leste’s U23 team lost 1-0 to the Malaysian rivals in the match.
Nasiruddin was also allegedly accused of giving money to seven Timor-Leste players in the match.-VNA
