Singapore jails Indonesian man for fixing football match

Singaporean authorities have handed down a 30-month sentence to an Indonesian man for fixing a men’s football match at the 28th Southeast Asian Games 2015 (SEA Games) in the island country last May.

Nasiruddin, 52, and two other persons, including a Singaporean,bribed the technical director of the Timor-Leste Football Federation,Orlando Marques Henriques Mendez, with 15,000 SGD (nearly 11,000 USD) inreturn for East Timor’s loss against Malaysia in their opening match onMay 30.

In fact, Timor-Leste’s U23 team lost 1-0 to the Malaysian rivals in the match.

Nasiruddin was also allegedly accused of giving money to seven Timor-Leste players in the match.-VNA
