Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s new cabinet was sworn into office before President Tony Tan at the Presidential Office Istana on October 1.

In his speech at the swearing-in ceremony, PM Lee Hsien Loong said that the new cabinet looks to provide the most efficient government for Singapore.

He explained the need of appointing Coordinating Ministers as the country is facing complex challenges that require fresh and bold ideas, the careful balancing of different goals and close coordination across multiple agencies.

PM Lee said his cabinet combines experienced and budding ministers, including young fourth-generation leaders.

He added that his responsibility is not only to govern the country well, but also to prepare the next generation leaders for the country.

In his speech, President Tony Tan touched on the issue of trust, saying that trust of the people is precious and that office-holders must continue to strive to deserve it.

The new cabinet swearing-in ceremony was led by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon with the witnesses of about 700 guests from offices and organisations.-VNA
