International visitor arrivals to Singapore in 2013 reached a record 15.6 million and tourism receipts increased to highest 23.5 billion SGD, up 7 percent and 2 percent, respectively, from 2012.
According to statistics released by the Singapore Tourism Board on May 9, Singapore welcomed 3.09 million Indonesians last year, followed by Chinese with 2.27 million, Malaysians with 1.28 million, Australians with 1.13 million, and Indians with 934,000.
Chinese visitors last year spent 2.98 billion SGD, a year-on-year rise of 18 per cent. This meant that for the first time, the Chinese spent more than the Indonesians, who had been the biggest-spending visitors in the city-state since 2007.
Revenue from sightseeing, entertainment and gaming increased 4 percent, while food and beverage receipts rose 2 percent. Gazetted hotel room revenue grew 3.9 percent to 2.9 billion SGD.
Shopping, however, recorded a 1 percent fall./.
