Singapore, Spain seek to deepen relations

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Spain’s King Felipe VI have sought to further deepen the two countries’ relationship during the former’s first official visit to Madrid.

At their meeting on February 6, the PM and the King reaffirmed that the two countries are in good relations.

On the same day, PM Lee held talks with his Spanish counterpart Mariano Rajoy in which they agreed to work to foster trade and investment between two countries.

They both acknowledged the crucial role of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the European Union and Singapore.

Earlier, the Singaporean leader met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jose Garcia- Margallo to discuss issues of mutual concern, including terrorism, Islamic State threat and European reform.

He also met with Minister of Economy and Competitiveness for economic cooperation issue.

A week-long visit to Europe is an opportunity for PM Lee to link and deepen relations with European friends. It is also a chance for enterprises from both sides to further their cooperation.-VNA
